Meh! Gotta agree with the reviews on here. Sat down for lunch on Saturday arvo, it was pretty busy but we got a table. The menu is pretty limited, standard pub fare. They had a BBQ set up and were doing a hot-dog special. Limited options if you're not into meat....1 vegetarian dish.

Food arrived, the Caesar salads were $19 without chicken...complete rip off. Full of lettuce a couple of croutons and boring bits of bacon in between. The steak sandwhich was another dish that was ordered, it came with chips and was apparently quite nice. We ordered a side of onion rings, they were so bland and flavorless and came with a side of tomato sauce...sooooo boring! Needed aioli or something, anything for flavor!

Only good thing about this place is the view

Every time I go to the Lucky Shag it's just more and more of a disappointment. I went on Thursday night with my partner and offered to buy the first round. I stood patiently at the bar for a solid half hour while the bartender continuously kept serving other people, who clearly pushed in and came in after me. I didn't say anything at first as having worked in a bar I know how annoying people can be when they are all up in your grill about you serving them ASAP, but after the 4th person, I pipped up. I turned around tot he people and told them off for being rude, knowing full well I had been standing there before them, and then the bartender, who had seen me, and even smiled but somehow 'never made it to me'. This isn't the first time that this has happened here either.

The only reason I give it two stars is because of the view, the guy who does live music there is actually pretty good and they plate up decent sized portions of food. The food is also quite delicious.

As for the staff and their service. Zero. Glasses were left all over the place and I noticed it took forever for empty plates to get cleared off.

It's just disappointing because I used to really like this place and know what their standards used to be like.

Go for the jugs of Pimms & Lemonade for $20. Great view of the Swan River while you drink it too.

Man, I love this place.  Great place to take out-of-towners to. (Note to Self : Maybe I should consider putting a list together for that) The reason why is that it's a cool, casual, vibey place with breathtaking views of the Swan and the beautiful skyscrapers.

Fish and Chips or Calamari with a salad is perhaps the order of the day here as it simply suits this waterfront venue most appropriately.  There's always a buzz at this place and one can easily see the reasons why it's so popular.  When we went through there was a live guitarist playing a lot of Jack Johnson style beats.

The lucky shag is great during the day. Great food and an awesome spot.
At night the security are a bunch of c@&!s they are the only thing letting the place down. Get some local australian security instead of the middle eastern crew and watch the place turn around

It's a nice place, with a great outdoor area.  Central location, by the water.  And yes, you can probably find a lucky shag there, as well.

Not so lucky today at the Lucky Shag, we ordered a glass of Shiraz and the young lady who served us, took the glass back and tipped out a couple of drops (not even sip worthy) onto the spillage tray. She then gave the glass back to us with wine dripping down the side of the glass ! Shocked & disappointed that anyone would seriously tip out a sip of extra wine, just to ensure that the wine was not over the standard drink line on the glass.

Two stars for being beside the water and big schooners, but the food wasn't good. Even deep frying takes some skill, which was not evident on our platter

Quite a nice setting in downtown Perth. Great views across the river and a huge bar with good service. Dinner menu is short and sweet, a burger a parma, nachos and a couple other things. I had the parma which was nice, nothing exceptional, just nice. A decent size what I would call smaller than your average parma however the cut was quite thick. Service was order meals at the bar then they are brought to your table. Meals came quite quickly however the place was definitely not busy when we were there.

I had a really lovely time here sitting out in the warm night air, catching up with a friend, looking at the lights across the river, listening to live music. The place was packed on a Thursday night.

For a Sydney gal the pub food and drinks are pricey, but apparently that's Perth. Damn mining boom. The chilli mussels ($30) are to die for, as is a cold pint of Little Creatures Pale Ale ($10). Heaven.

One thing to note is TAKE AEROGUARD. I got destroyed by sandflies after sitting out looking over the river for 2 hours - consider yourself warned.

Went there for our Christmas party. Food - wasn't bad - came out all at the same time roughly. I like the position, I like the beer selection. Dont go there when it is packed though. The bar area is also the only standing room.......almost like a mosh pit some summer days.

Its all location, location, location with The Lucky Shag and to be honest each star represents one mention of 'location'.
In my opinion, bouncers on a door at 3pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon is a little bit narcissistic! A friend of mine couldn't get in to join us at 16.30 because his shorts weren't tailored.......PARDON? Do we live in a society that one must wear tailored suits leaving the house, even when it is 39 degrees and the middle of the day? For crying out loud, this is Perth we are talking about!
Another thing, in order not to be claimed as a 'sports bar', they must present TV items other than sport on 50% of their TVs. International cricket becomes quite difficult to concentrate on when that darn road runner keeps getting away in the corner of your eye.
They get away with murder here because of their location and the worst thing is that I will keep coming back here to enjoy a sunny beer on a the river, I just wish that management would realise that being nice to your customers is a little easier than treating them like criminals.

Perched on the Barrack St Jetty, The Lucky Shag is a big tin shed with a sprawling patio area that looks out on to the Swan River. A great spot to bring tourists and other visitors to the city for its location and busy atmosphere alone. It's not a particularly dynamic pub, but it's kicked-back and caters for lots of groups. Drinks are fairly pricey (where are they not in Perth these days) and the food menu is standard (although they do serve up these awesome mini burgers - 4 to a plate, which are ace). Summery, Friday night-y, and at times a tad bogan-y.

The Lucky Shag is exactly what it says on the tin. Well, not quite exactly, in the sense that it doesn't beat around the bush. It sells beer and drinks, you've got places to sit and you can watch a game on the screens. It doesn't pretend to be something classier than what it is, which is why people have a respect for it. It has a brilliant location, right next to the city, and sits right on the Swan river. The bar staff are friendly and personable and the service is fast, exactly what you want.

It's an easy going place to come to, you can grab a nice cold drink and sit out on the veranda on the water and enjoy chatting with friends, and perhaps spot a dolphin swim by!

The Lucky Shag has one thing going for it - its location. Set on the banks of the Swan River, the Lucky Shag at night offers a picturesque view of the glimmering lights from South Perth.

The drinks are overpriced and the beer range is laughable for a place that views itself as upscale. Instead, the Lucky Shag is reminiscent of a place where cashed-up bogans would have a drink before hitting the late-night clubs.

The Lucky Shag is a disappointing watering hole. There are better ones within walking distance [such as the Moon and Sixpence, and the Belgian Beer Cafe].

I came here for a pre-drink once, meeting a couple of friends before we headed off to the On The Bright Side music festival across the road on the Esplanade.

The array of boutique beers is impressive, and the prices per pint not too extortionate. The ambience is laidback, and the crowd a good selection of casual indie types and well-suited city slickers (the latter more often here for after-work drinks in the city).

I'd say The Lucky Shag was one of Perth's better beer garden-type venues: attractive, spacious, and non-pricey. Then there's its wow factor: having the Swan River on one side and stunning Perth city skyline on the other. Not bad value when all I wanted was a pre-festival drink!

Gets a star for location only! Staff rude and unhelpful, food pretty ordinary.

A great example of how to turn an excellent location and opportunity into a very ordinary experience.

    Won't be hurrying back here.

I stopped in here twice during the two weeks I spent in Perth.  This is a lovely place right on the river, easily accessible via the bike path...which makes it a perfect beer stop on a hot summer day.  Relaxing atmosphere, nice selection of beers, and the generous pumpkin salad was delicious.  If I were a local, I would be a regular here.
