This pub seems to be pretty new, and is actually a part of the Elizabeth Quay development. It is your typical trendy waterfront style bar, which is classier that some of the other bars that you tend to find round the city. Not surprisingly there is a pretty decent selection of beers, though they aren't necessarily the cheapest of the lot. Still, it was a nice place, especially the outdoor area which basically sits above the water, and also affords some pretty decent views.
We dined here about 20 days ago. Love the view and the ambiance. The staff are very friendly and chatted with me. The reason I gave four instead of five stars is the freakin prices are SO high! Good. Grief. Now the good stuff. Saw they had French fries served with "cheese sauce" and since I am obsessed with cheese sauce I begged the server to let me buy a side of sauce. I ordered vegetarian nachos and the cheese sauce on the side was pretty darn good. Not sure why Perth restaurants never have it. The sauce made the nachos even better. The only thing I didn't like about the nachos was the chili part. I think it is a little odd to have kidney beans on nachos- I would prefer pinto or black beans but that's just me. They were still good. I'll be back the next time I need more cheese sauce!
Came here on a Monday night for some dinner. It is a casual bar with mainly outdoor seating overlooking the swan river. My friend and I ordered at the bar and then our food came out. I had the chilli mussels and she had the beef thai noodle salad. We shared an order of the nachos. Their prices are pretty reasonable for the around of food. The mussels portion was huge and definitely recommend to share. The mussels were cooked in a marinara type sauce. I am not used to mussels being served in such a thick sauce. The sauce was nice to dip the garlic bread in. The nachos were also quite a large serving. They were kind of lack luster as none of the components were outstanding. I did not care for the thick salsa or the chips. My friend's noodle salad was more of an average portion. Overall, the food is mediocre but the location is what makes it worth coming.
I love the shag, and even on a Monday before Anzac Day, it was busy. We still managed to get a great table by the water. It's always a great vibe here. If you have a big group it's a great place to meet and move in on tables as the open up. Just two of us today, my hubby and I. We've been overseas for a few years and this place hasn't changed a bit. We had a few beers, chili mussels, salt and pepper squid and some chips. All really good, simple and very filling.
Nice waterfront bar are lots of televisions for watching Australian football . Drinks variety is okay. Food and service are good.
Great location by the swan river. View is Every time I go here it always seems to be busy so it's tough to find a table or seat for any more than two people. Outside area isn't under cover so if the weather is average you might want to rug up, take an umbrella or wear sunscreen. Food is reasonable, tasty pub food. Service is reasonable. Definitely worth a look
Absolutely stunning views of the river and just a short stroll down the hill from the CBD, The Lucky Shag seemed like an ideal spot to laze away the afternoon with friends. Service for ordering drinks on the outdoor side was prompt and relatively friendly despite doing a thriving trade. Unable to find a table that still had shade cover in the beer garden, we went indoors to order our meals. I ordered the chicken club sandwich which was tasty and extremely generous, my companions ordered the pizza, the nachos and the prawns which were all enjoyed. The downside was the restaurant service. There was no indication when we ordered that wait times for meals would be excessive - totally understandable that at busy times or when understaffed that you might be waiting an hour for food but let your customers know this. On the opposite end of this we had a waitress try and clear plates before we were actually finished with them. Always awkward. It was still overall an enjoyable experience, however, and I'd be willing to give them another go. TL, DR? Yummy food, generous servings, service a bit average. Would visit again, even just for the view.
Visiting Elizabeth Quays we ducked into the Shag for lunch. Mussels and a pint. It was delish and the mussels spot on.
Great bar on the waterfront in Perth with great views and a good ambience, food is decent depending on what you get we had the steak sandwich and pie which were great, but the poutine was pretty rubbish. The think that let's this pub down is the overly strict bar tenders, who really take liquor licensing to seriously, we had one person in our group a bit drunk so we gave her water, but he banned all 15 of us from drinking until she sobered up. They are like this every time I have been there, it's excessively uptight even by Perth mummy state standards, chill out guy's it's a bar people will get tipsy!!
Went to the lucky shag for dinner on a Thursday night. Had the steak and beer special $30. Beer on offer was Swan draught, and the steak was 250g. It came with chips and salad. Asked for well done, but it ended up a little bit too well done. Was it worth the $30 - I would say no even if its on special. Having said that, its a nice place for group of people to meet up. Had a nice ambiance and service is friendly. Would I go out my way to go here - no but I wouldn't knock it back if I'm around.
Lucky Shag still has a great atmosphere and location, no doubt about that. BUT, they have recently changed their menu, seemingly removing anything that was delicious and keeping anything that was mediocre. They have taken both seafood platters off the menu completely - probably the biggest draws on the old menu. To say I was crushed when I went there tonight is an understatement. Instead we ordered the nachos (which weren't as good as they once were - a lot of dry chips left at the end) and the chicken drumettes - avoid at all costs, they are basically chicken legs covered in neon pink oil. So disappointed as this used to be one of my all time favourite places to eat. Sad face :(
I really enjoyed The Lucky Shag. I went on a Saturday night and it was surprisingly busy, but not too crowded - with most people choosing the outdoor area overlooking the water. There was a DJ on the deck as well, and he was fantastic! We stayed for more drinks after we finished dinner just because of the fun atmosphere on the deck. I chose to sit inside initially as we ate - it seemed a little too cold to venture out to the water's edge. Orders are placed at the bar, and they do accept EFTPOS payments which was great. I placed an order and the food was delivered fairly soon after - grilled barramundi with roast potatoes, asparagus and a house-made aioli - I really enjoyed it. The fish was well cooked, moist, and had a great flavour. The aioli had a really great flavour to it and a nice creamy texture which I enjoyed. The whole dish was very well presented and the portion size was appropriate too. My only criticism would be that my friend's fish had a few bones left in it. For the most part, the staff aren't overly friendly or helpful, and I always find ordering at a bar can be a risky situation as there aren't any lines or order to the way you're served. But the waitress who cleared out table was quite pleasant and efficient - as a whole, I wouldn't rate their service too highly. The view is spectacular - and they have really highlighted it by having a deck/beer garden overlooking the water. They have ample heaters as well for the colder nights which I definitely appreciated. The only downside is that it is a little out of the way if you're planning on heading to a few different places but there is ample (ticketed) parking. I would love to head back during the day and see the view.
Had a great time here, a couple of weeks back. Sat out on the deck with a great view over the river in the Sun with some good food, nice drinks and friends. A great way to waste away an afternoon. Food was fantastic, we had burgers, calamari, salad and all enjoyed. The array of drinks on tap is great and staff knowledge and speed of service is good.
One of the great waterfront pubs in Australia! Great view, great vibe and good bar food. Live music was great, plenty of sports etc on the many tv's. Great place to have some drinks and relax.
Sitting out on the deck overlooking the beautiful Swan River is just the best way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon. This is a great spot. Food is good, well presented, but the location is superb
A local frnd recommended and it did not disappoint. Road works made it complicated to get to but the outdoor deck was worth it (even in the rain). A dolphin spent the post-shopping-drinks w us by swimming lazily off the deck w a fish on its mouth. Lovely to watch a footy game w the multiple screens and close enough to CBD for pre-dinner drinks!
On a boiling hot summer's day in Perth (which is pretty much every day), we sat on the dock to drink plenty of beer and try and cool off in the breeze. This went on for a number of hours. Ice cold beer does fill one with happy thoughts when it's dripping hot outside. We also shared the dips with turkish bread and the quinoa salad. Overall, it was decent food for a pubby place. There was a security guard wandering around at 4pm in the afternoon. Made me think nights here would be like the wild, wild west with lots of drunken fights.
My favorite is coming here on a Sunday for lunch. It's a good type of busy. The atmosphere is vibrant and the food is great. It is really good for a Sunday sesh as well. Ive been a couple of times on a Friday and Saturday night. It pretty much gets dead by 10pm but it is a good place to start out. I was here last Friday night and my friend had forgotten her ID so they would not let us in. Later when she got her ID we got back in and were there the whole night. Later in the evening the security guard that kicked us out earlier came up and thanked us for doing the right thing and not being rude about it. I thought it was really kind of her to say that. The majority of security guards can be meat heads so it was good to see genuinely nice ones out there.
The food here was great. Ordered the steak sandwich & 3 layered chicken burger. The order did take a while to arrive, but let's say the quality of the food & the setting of the venue definitely made the wait a worthwhile one. I'd happily recommend this venue to others.
The Lucky Shag is one of those places that you can say "lets meet at that pub on the waterfront by the belltower" and people will know where you mean. A fabulous setting and beer on tap make this place 4 stars. The fact it's conveniently located near a free Cat stop and the ferry is also a bonus. I must say that I was not impressed with the door woman the time she wouldn't let my 25 y.o. friend in with her 2 Canadian government issued IDs though. Totally unnecessary considering it was midday, we were stone sober and we're friendly Canadians who just want a pint. It wasn't enough to ruin my overall impression of the place as it was just one self reightous bouncer, but it was enough to ruin my friends chances at having any positive memories of the Lucky Shag.
