We came 3 days in a row. The banh mi is so good! The lemongrass beef is so flavorful. They have fantastic veg options too. Highly recommend!
I'm not sure why this place doesn't have a higher rating. This is one of the few places you can grab food in the Quay without going to a sit down restaurant. We were looking for something quick because we had a harbor cruise to catch in about 30 minutes and found this place. The chicken banh mi was the blend of sauces was so good that as soon as we both took a bite, we got right back in line to order another and this time added extra meat and got the works. If you're looking for a quick and super flavorful meal to go, this is the place to be.
I was at Circular Quay waiting for my ship to arrive. I love Vietnamese food so thought I was give this place a try. This is a great concept -- you know, when you're in a hurry to be able to take Vietnamese food with you on the go..I mean even the hot soup! Well, great concept but in reality a disappointment to me. We ordered 2 rolls. They got the order wrong. We had ordered 2 different rolls but ended up getting 2 of the same roll and by the time we noticed we had already taken our food and left. The rolls were made mostly of noodles and not enough vegetables. They also tasted hard. The pho soup was dissapointing because the pho broth tasted different and the noodles ended up tasting soggy. I really had high hopes for this place and really wish I had enjoyed my experience. But 2 thumbs up for the innovative idea.
Wandered from my hotel to Circular Quay in search of food. Opted for Bun Me because it seemed quick and cheap. I ordered the lemongrass beef banh mi, and it was decent. I wasn't a fan of the bun as it was pretty thick so there was a large bread to filling ratio. The lemongrass beef was good, but there wasn't that much of it. Overall it was pretty good, but coming from New York City I'm used to amazing Vietnamese food, and unfortunately this can't compare.
It's hard to imagine getting Vietnamese rolls as wrong as they do. The bread feels stale, no crunch to it, and the fillings are average and sort of chopped in an odd way. Maybe their Pho is better, one could only hope so.
Nice corner banh mi shop that's always crowded during lunch. Not the best Vietnamese buns but they're quite good value if compared to the others around here. The servings are of good size although the fillings can be lacking sometimes (especially when it's made by the two male staff - the female staff members are slightly more generous!) It's best to avoid the lunch crowd because there's usually only two people working there and it takes a while to get your buns. Make sure you have at least 10-15 mins to spare
I had to do a double take when I first saw that Bun Me had opened near my work. Panic sunk in as I thought they had taken over the coffee shop that sells Harry's pies and sausage rolls. I've comfort ate more second-lunches from that shop than I'd care to admit. But alas, Bun Me has just moved into the 'hood right next to said coffee shop. Banh mi's are another frequent craving of mine, so I'm happy with the new kid in town. Bun Me's prices are reasonable (especially for the prime location). Doing my Yelply duty I over ordered and had a classic pork banh mi and 2 rice paper rolls (prawn & pork and soft shell crab). The total came in under $15. I didn't find much filling in my banh mi ($6.90), and would probably add extra meat next time ($2), but the flavour was good and there was a decent chili game. Again, I'll probably ask for extra chilies next time, but I like tears streaming down my face when I eat a banh mi. I wound up saving the rice paper rolls ($3.9 each) for second lunch. They were your standard rolls, made a bit better with the nuac mam and garlic chili sauce I poured on.
