This is the go to in Adelaide for a Sunday. Whether or not you have plans, if you want to have a successful venture in the City of Adelaide add this to your bucket list.
Adelaide has a bad reputation for being quiet on a Sunday. So, the Market Shed on Holland are doing a great job in changing that. This set up hosts a range of ever changing producers and themed events. Whether it is wine, vegetables, salad, plants or candles, you will find a great collection of boutique versions here.
A lot of the produce is handmade artisan stuff, so you know it is going to be good and cost a little extra. But, when it comes to this quality it's worth chucking in an extra dollar or two.
The atmosphere here is great, often includes live music and entertainment. If the weather is nice, the eating area will sprawl outside so you can get some Vitamin D.
When planning your trip, be mindful that carparking is a little tricky on the streets. There is a paid carpark right next to it though if you get desperate. However, Sunday offers free parking on the streets in the City. So try that first.
Bring lot's of bags and come hungry. You will fill your belly and leave with some pretty awesome stuff to stock your cupboards.
I am a massive fan girl of this place. Get on it!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jane M.Adelaide, Adelaide South Australia417316912 Sept 2016
I love this little market on Sunday's. Great for Sunday lunch with so much variety from vegan bowls to Greek desserts, milk less cheese, cakes, fresh juices, paella. Great variety.
You can also buy fresh flowers, fresh vegetables, dog treats, and more.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Daniel G.Adelaide South Australia6317915227 July 2016
What an awesome little shed/CBD market. It's not a huge market by any stretch and on my rainy stormy and freezing Sunday visit, when crowded with people, it seemed even smaller.
The crowd does however add the buzz and vibrancy that makes for what a market should feel like. It's like an ants nest with overlapping activities but with some sort of understood order.
Essentially The Market Shed is a foodies market and offers a plethora of lunchtime dishes as well as take away for later ideas. There's live music, noise and conversations, and smells of deliciousness all around you. There are many snack and dessert options, fresh juice and vegetables, baked goods, coffee, honey and chocolate stands, and I think I saw one stand with some jewellery. A little more art would be great but there's only so much room to display in the shed.
There's a fair bit of seating but be prepared to wait if it's crowded and you want to sit and eat. We enjoyed some beautiful Margherita pizzas from a wood oven, fresh roti, then some ice cream, a gorgeous fresh green juice with apples, carrots and 'numerous' greens, coffee and some little lemon and ricotta delights from a stand I will be returning to in the very near future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alex L.Perth Western Australia132764711 Aug 2016
FAVOURITE market I have been to thus far. The Market Shed is only open on Sundays but if your in adelaide, you HAVE to check it out!!!
The produce is all organic, ethical and sustainably produced/sourced; albeit not 100% vegan each stall more or less has loads of vego and vegan options!! Its the perfect place to spend the Sunday lunch, you can check out the live music, food stalls with lots of variety - pizza, burgers, veggie bowls, south american cuisine and fresh juice and there a few other little stalls selling baked goods, herbs and spices and fresh fruit and veg. An hour or so before closing time most of the stalls will start discounting the food and drink on sale as well.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chloe R.Adelaide South Australia909487209120 Nov 2013
Yes the rumours are true. If you were at the opening of The Market Shed last Sunday you too probably would have seen me walking around like a pug in a bacon shop.
Wide eyed, unable to breath properly from heart palpitations because "can't talk...too excited..."
This place has gathered everything I love about Adelaide and plonked it into the trendiest warehouse shed thing at the back of IGA on Gilbert St. It's even run by the same SA family!
Every Sunday from 9am-2pm this shed will open its doors to stallholders who want to sell their wares. From bakers to vegan cafes, coffee shops, seedling stalls and more this little collective of organic, vegan, raw and healthy food is all a bit too much for me.
Want to try some kombucha? Hells yeah! How about a freshly steamed mussel from the coast of SA? Ok!
It's like a farmers market but smaller, less crowded (not for long I'm sure) and is 5 minutes from my home so wins 5 stars in my books. So why only 4 stars then? I do think there needs to be more fresh fruit and veg options and a bit more diversity in stalls for people like me who want to do their week's shop here (ie. 3 bakeries in the one small location is a bit much).
I am officially signed up as a Market Member already and for $20 per annum you get invited to private events at The Shed, receive discounts at stalls and a cool chopping board for progressive tasting plate specials from stalls each weekend.
So if you have nothing to do next Sunday and want to see a spectacle, come on down to the Market Shed to see your resident pug faced, over excited local shopping, slurping coffee and getting her organic on.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Hannah T.Norwood South Australia2950471 Dec 2013
I may be accused of being biased but I was very impressed with the owners, organisers & stall-holders of The Market Shed on Holland.
There in only it's third market I found a variety of stalls & very enthusiastic producers - all of whom were willing to spend the time with every customer.
A face-painter (only $3!) and musos at each corner of the space added to the enthusiastic vibe - tangible despite a couple of summer showers that may have kept larger hoardes of customers away.
Despite it's small(er) size (of comparative markets such as the Adelaide Farmers Showgrounds Market) of 20-30 stalls, the array of stalls and the promises of more to come (think weekend evening members activities) have got my vote.
Visit during 2013 to become a member for an amazing introductory price of $20 & support Adelaide's newest market with an organic, artisan & community focus!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Linda D.Payneham, Adelaide South Australia141123765 June 2016
The Sunday morning Heart Foundation Walking Group just couldn't wait to get to the Market Shed on Holland this morning. Everyone walking was wet and cold.
Surprising number of people were already here and this continued to grow during our stop over.
Market Shed in Holland us the Sunday morning location for fresh flowers, fruit and vegetables, bread , cakes and pastries and of course a range of delicious breakfast items from which to choose.
On offer are a range of organic mueslis, smoothies , hot coffee and chocolate, Belgian waffles and simply huge Mexican breakfasts .
All the time whether browsing, eating or drinking there is music to be enjoyed.
A great addition for creature comfort this morning were the gas heaters!!
As for me I was more than satisfied with my toastie of egg, bacon ,spinach and relish sandwiched between two slices of toasted sour dough bread and which was simply delicious and the perfect warm me up on such a cold and wet Sunday.
A Must visit place on Sunday mornings!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jenny N.Melbourne Victoria3191211 June 2017
Absolutely fantastic market to hit on a Sunday. - a must if you are in Adelaide. I loved so many things about this place; the rustic appeal, right in the CBD, the many great food choices from vegan, vegetarian, desserts, juices, live music, beautiful, fresh produce... I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This is a place I have been avoiding for a few reasons ... too many z-grade celebs*, hipsters love it, and the 'Sunday Mail crowd' love it. All these things usually guarantee that I won't - but I was pleasantly surprised!!
We came early, just after 9am - a great time to come if you want to avoid abovementioned crowds ;) So no pushing and shoving (like you get at the market at the showgrounds). Standouts were Small Batch Coffee (hello Bonsoy!), Beach Organics (hello raw chocolate!), Bush Organics (hello face balm!) and the bakery that sells yummy Portuguese tarts. I missed Raw Karma (they mustn't be there every week) :(
So yes, I have changed my tune ... as long as we arrive early, I'll definitely be visiting again!! Next time I think we'll grab brekkie here too ;)
* ie. commercial television cooking contestants ... we don't *all* fawn over them - for that person who sent me a bitchy message!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Kathy H.Adelaide South Australia92557826 Aug 2014
Best use of empty urban space ever!!!
I'd read all the reviews and heard all the gossip and it more than lives up to the demand.
Pro Tip: Bring your appetite. This place is a food lovers heaven. So much so I couldn't decide what I wanted. I did end up with a freshly squeezed blood orange juice from Olive & Edith. Pesticide free and SA grown, what's not more to love. And it was served in cool hipster glass milk bottles.
Bring your pooch as they have Pooch Parking, and speaking of parking, they even offer rickshaw rides back to your car for a small fee. Excellent as this place is so popular and buzzing you may have to park around the block!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
