I spent my last night in London in New Cross since I had to get to Gatwick easily the next morning and came here for dinner.
I had their spicy ground beef larb with coconut rice and was impressed, it WAS spicy and hot. Most Thai places play down the spice factor but they sure don't here.
It doesn't look like much from the outside and I was here on a Saturday night and the place was empty. Nonetheless the girl here was really friendly the food was perfectly fine and the prices are beyond reasonable.
I love finding places off the tourist radar.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Bethany W.London, United Kingdom1875288156011 July 2016
What a pleasant surprise - there were highs and lows throughout the evening BUT both my friend and myself left with smiles on our faces and very full tummies and that's why I've given it a 4 star...
I LOVE Thai food and when I saw a 4.5* spot just round the corner called Thailand, it just had to be investigated!
We arrived and straight away noticed the great offer of a 3 course meal and a glass of wine for just £12.95 served throughout the week. Impressive! We were feeling flush and decided to choose off the a la carte menu but I'd definitely return to give the offer a whirl.
We chose to share the mixed starter, and the crispy duck and pancakes to start, and then chicken penang, prawn pad thai and sticky rice for mains.
Service throughout was polite and well timed, our waitress was in fact the owners daughter and shared some stories about her father and the two restaurants they own. She was wonderful!
Now to the food - the mixed starter was a bit of a disappointment, there was just way too much deep fried vegetables rather than the good quality products like chicken satay and prawn toast. We actually had to leave the majority which was a shame.
Now to the duck... NOM. Perfectly cooked and crispy, plenty of pancakes to share, plum sauce think a flavoursome and when put together with cucumber and spring onion, just perfection!
Now to the best part - their Thai food is authentic, packed with a punch and truly delicious! The pad Thai had lots of large and juicy king prawns, the Penang was in a thick and creamy sauce - the best I'd ever had! All I will say is we would have like a little more veg (in both dishes) but this didn't take away from flavours of food, really great quality food!
We really did enjoy the evening and we'll definitely be back for another girlie night soon! Highly recommended if in the area and a lover of Thai!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Grace H.London, United Kingdom01319 Dec 2020
This restaurant has stayed in my list for two weeks. We walked in half an hour before it officially open but we were warm welcomed. The host was really passionate! We order a set dinner with tong yum chicken soup and beef fried rice with basil leaves and chili. Both tasted so good and in original Thai style (exactly what I was looking for)! It is not allowed to eat in venue at the moment but I surely will come next time after the restrictions!

I rarely give 5 stars, but this is an exception. Everytime i've been here (weekdays and weekends, evenings and afternoons, busy and quiet) i've had both amazing service and even better food. Intimate seating area inside and in the summer, outside, with another part downstairs. The bar is small, but great value (the beer here is cheaper than in most pubs in the area) and the service is always fast, polite and welcoming.
The food is good, considering you can get a starter, main, side and drink all for easily under £15. Lunch time is happy hour, with set meals for less than £5. Great selection of meats and Taiwanese dishes on the menu.
Opposite Goldsmiths college and just off the main strip (New Cross Road), the crowed here is always good. I couldn't recommend this place enough, especially if you are in the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kevin D.Belfast, United Kingdom0624 Oct 2011
Good food and atmosphere, cheap too.
The only thing I didn't like was that the waitress took away my plate before my girlfriend had finished, no rush!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kusalin K.Inner Sunset, San Francisco, United States252516 Apr 2015

Simple, tasty, uncomplicated and amazing value.
For quite a small area, New Cross has some amazing things to offer in the way of lunch. Thailand is no exception.
Apart from the fact you get to say - "oh I'm just popping to Thailand" when you visit for lunch, Happy hour (which helpfully runs from 12-7pm) means you can sit down for 2 courses for just £4,95.
This is just perfect when you've had your fill of canteen and shop bought lunches or want to catch up with a friend in your lunch hour.
The Happy hour menu is limited for Vegetarians, however it's really got just what you need. I normally opt for the Vegetable tempura starter and Red Thai Curry with rice. It's not going to be the best Thai food you've ever had, but actually tops some of the more posher Thai eateries I've visited in London. And for the price it's just amazing Value.
Their Fish cakes are actually the best I've ever had.
The service is quick and efficient and the waiting staff do know their regulars. But be warned, the fish dishes do take a lot longer to come out. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and a pleasant dining experience.
For such a modest establishment, Thailand is regularly packed, but not as over packed as some places.
If you're in the area it's a definate reccommend.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aleksandra B.London, United Kingdom42022006 Nov 2008First to Review
The Thailand is very popular with Goldsmiths Students, and for a reason. The prices are relatively low and the food is good! I would personally recommend the Duck with sesame or the tempura and Spring Rolls, but then my heat tolerance is really bad, so if you are adventurous try some of the beef dishes and curries.
The restaurant is not a fussy place, is always really busy and so it tends to get hot and steamy in there, but so what! A great place to go with mates to get some yummy Laotian food at student prices.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 10 Mar 2013
Nice student prices on dinner specials 5 - 7pm weekdays. The special comes with a starter and a main. Portions are small compared to the usual heaping platters at Asian places, but it was definitely enough for me to be completely satiated. My entire group (11 people, I think) ordered different combinations of starter and main dinner special, and everyone was satisfied. There were veggie options as well. I had the tom yum soup and red pepper chicken. Both were solid and tasty. I'd eat here again.
