This is the "same" store as the Planter's (very) close to our home - only much bigger!! Great selection of everything for your garden from plants and flowers to hardware, decorations, gadgets, clothes, boots and everything in between. Nice (big) restaurant with daily specials and even a pet section... Also frequent tours to local sights, fairs, markets, theater and more (including London, coastal resorts and even Scotland)
Since we are SO close to Bretby we only visit this store once a year - to buy a TALL Christmas tree (12 feet at least) to decorate our drawing room with it's 15 foot ceilings. It gets you in the Christmas spirit to witness everything at this great store....

Living in the UK arouses my curiosity about some English habits such as drinking in the pubs, watching some football matches ( also in the pubs!) and obviously, gardening!
I have to confess that I didn't succeed at the last subject yet! Meanwhile, I am visiting some garden centres around and it has been a great experience.
Planters Garden Centre is a perfect place to research about gardening. The facility offers a large range of plants, shrubs and trees and what should have been very confusing for an amateur like me, turned into something very educative day.
Thanks to the leaflets offered to the customers with all basic information we need to start to understand more about this very English hobby.
According to my auntie kate- a personal gardening adviser that day- the prices of some plants are reasonable for a big garden centre like that.
Planters has also a huge and comfy restaurant that deserves to be visited, opens seven days a week and the parking is for free!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (nikfr…)Birmingham, United Kingdom14890468 July 2008
This garden centre is one of the larger in the area and has a variety of wares. There are the usual tools, plants, pots, trees etc,. that you would expect ( I am not green fingered but my parents who know about such things rave about the range). Outside are bedding plants, garden ornaments, water features - but also a small children's play area and a well thought out sand play area which doubles as a welcome distraction for the wee ones as you browse, and also advertises the various sand toys/sand pits/ garden toys that they sell. Cunning.
Inside the restaurant is actually a bit of a find, their cream teas and sunday roasts are particularly good. Be prepared to share your space with mostly pensioners though - its not really a hip hop and happening kind of joint. Still is very civilised and an ideal place to take your granny for a nice spot of lunch and a wander. They also have local artists work on display there which is for sale - mainly landscape and floral pieces and quite traditional - but decent all the same.
I tend to come here for the pet centre (we have gerbils that seem to have bottomless tummies) - and its quite well maintained with a reasonable range of small mammals, reptiles, birds and the accompanying equipment you will need. The staff seem quite well informed in this area and the animals look well cared for although I have to admit I have never bought livestock from here. There is also a large dedicated Aquatics department aptly named 'ripples' which we also use to get food and accessories from. They only stock cold water and tropical (large selection) though - no marine.
Other products include furniture, giftwares, toys, and local produce. I have to say that its also a good place to find a quirky gift for birthdays etc,. as they tend to have unusual bits and bobs, and some nice locally produced handicrafts. This place is huge - so be warned that you may well wander round absorbed for a good few hours.
The best time to come here for me is on the run up to Christmas, their seasonal displays are second to none. About half of the internal space is taken up with festive displays including decorations, gifts and animatronics. If you want something O.T.T and unusual as a centre piece this christmas and money is no object then this is the place to come. It does not come cheap though - my son fell in love last year with these lifesize animated baby polar bears - yes polar bears!! Besides the fact there is no room in my little victorian terraced for such beasts - they also cost £600.00 a pair. Cute though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James F.Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom15125 Mar 2015
This garden centre is a top place to take the family for the afternoon, the staff are friendly the cafe is brilliant for a spot of lunch and they have a great aquatic area for those that have fish! I would recommend an afternoon at planters any day to others!

GO here at xmas time as the displays are awesome. Great little garden center close to the A5 road. It is rather expensive, but aren't all garden centers. Food here is great, expecially on Sunday and close to Christmas
