Cineworld Cinemas

I frequent this particular cinema only because I live relatively near it - and it's a definite ok!

With much fewer screens than the massive Cineworld in town, this one often doesn't have as great a choice of films and also has a lot less screening options, but the upside is it's never busy when I go!

I usually take my Mum along and we've seen a few great films here, having our pick of seats when booking is a great bonus, and the staff are always really nice even though they sometimes look like they could die of boredom.

It's not as flashy as Renfrew St and obviously not as new as Silverburn, having previously been a UGC and possibly something before that as well(?) So the seats aren't quite as comfy, another downside being that you have to look up at the screen rather than being kind of on the same level.

But it does the job! If I've got a free evening and it's showing something I've been wanting to see, it really is ideal. The car park's usually pretty easy to get a space in, plus ASDA's just downstairs if you don't fancy (paying for) cinema munchies. I think I probably would miss it if it wasn't there, too.

The Cineworld complex at Parkhead Forge is a bit of a strange one. I remember going there to see Mr Bean back in the 90s when it was still owned by Virgin (can you remember a time when they owned cinemas?!) I must say it really hasn't changed all that much over the years. It's a good size, though, and never too busy.

They don't yet screen any 3D films, but unless you're bringing kids or especially love 3D films that shouldn't be a problem! It's kind of cheap and friendly without the cheap, like the CIneworld in town but without the hellacious queues on Friday and Sunday nights.

Not as busy as the city centre or the new silverburn one but serves us in the north and east end perfectly.

Free parking outside as part of the forge shopping centre complex and handy cashpoint located outside too.

Ticket collection machines are avilable just inside for anyone who has booked online.

Never had any bother at this cinema and i hope its here for many more years to come!

I quite like this cinema. It's got less of a faceless gigantic enterprise feeling. Each theatre is set off a central foyer with a food stand and the usual facilities.

The carpets stick like Keanu Reeves' facial expressions and the popcorn is as stale as Nicholas Cage. Smuggle in your food - the prices are uniformly ridiculous.

Still three stars for the update. The ticket desk has closed so you now have to get your tickets from the concession stand which can lead to lengthy queues some nights. For some reason I always end up behind the four people who are buying enough food to feed a small developing nation. And insisting on making one purchase each just so that it takes even longer.

The gents' loo also smells and has done for years. It looks clean and shiny, but it stinks.

On the plus side, the staff are uniformly lovely! Never have I encountered rudeness, ignorance or jobsworthiness. They deserve a nicer cinema!

My dad and I love going to the cinema and my dad asked me to check out what was showing in AD. Ok, bit of background and what is AD I hear you ask?

My dad is registered blind but thankfully more and more cinemas are catching up with the technology of AD (Audio Description). This is where a blind or VIP (Visually Impaired Person) can attain a special headset from the front desk, which allows the user to hear a description of what's happening within the film. My dad has always been a cinema goer since he was young and he didn't want to be held back by his impairment so finds the headset excellent and it let's him continue to enjoy the cinema going experience.

I would normally head to Renfrew Street but I recently got the Cineworld app and it brings up your nearest cinemas. I had totally forgotten about this one and it's actually a little bit closer to me than the Renfrew Street one. I checked both to see what was in AD but unfortunately most were cartoons but luckily Parkhead had Taken 2 on. More our style! I do like a good action film.

It was a Saturday afternoon when we headed in and of course it being years since the both of us have been to The Forge, we found the car park absolutely mobbed. I managed to get a car parking space outside Asda. It was an ok route to cut through and will bring you out at the escalators to head upstairs to the cinema.

I can get in for free as a carer with my dad as he has a CEA card (Cinema Exhibitor's Assocation). It really is a lot of acronyms in the land of the visually impaired. Unfortunately for me in a way I have a Unlimited Card so I tend to use that since I'm paying for it every month. Anyway I do use my Unlimited Card when going with my friends and man.

The cinema is good as it's not that busy, so not much queuing. They have done away with the external pay desk located outside in the mall. It's just full of film banners and point of sale. You now need to pay where you buy popcorn and drinks from. There's no machine to collect tickets, they probably find there's no need as it tends not to be that busy.

First time we went I bought my dad's senior ticket there but when we were deciding to go again to see Skyfall, when looking through the app I realised you can use MyCineworld online and get 10% off the ticket. So this then brought the ticket to under a £5. Cha-Ching! Just book online, get a ref code and tell them at the desk. Done and dusted!

I can't wait to go back, it's fantastic for my dad and makes it easier for me, as I used to try and describe to him. I hate people talking too much in the cinema and I was feeling a hypocrite. This helps more than probably most people know.

Oh must mention the seats, there is a hugemongous amount of leg room, so an extra added bonus. The food and drinks are gigantic and it is mighty pricey but I did noticed they are offering 10% for Unlimited Card users. I still wouldn't buy much, maybe the odd sweetie but it's a rare occasion.

We had a pleasant experience and the staff were really nice to me and my dad. We have already decided what to see next. Yay!

This is a decent little Cineworld cinema, which has more of a friendly local theatre feel than its city centre branch. Situated at the top of The Forge Shopping Centre, it's ideal for catching a film after a day of shopping, and it's never very busy, so you're guaranteed a decent seat.

There's an Asda downstairs, so I would advice stocking up on cinema snacks to avoid paying the premium prices in here. Overall, it's a decent little cinema, if you want to avoid the city centre crowds.

If you're going to satisfy a movie craving in a chain cinema, this is Renfrew St Cineworld's humble sister.

I prefer the atmosphere in here, usually because it's fairly quiet. Sure, it's as expensive as any other Cineworld, but during the week it's not just as pricey as Renfrew, and you're more likely to secure a seat when you visit Parkhead.

It looks more like an old cinema complex - it's flat, the auditoriums are tall and there are remnants of generic 90s cinema decor. But everything about it comforts me, down to the faint, musky old smell of the building, the kicked back atmosphere, and even the outrageously overpriced hot dogs.

It's a great place to see the latest blockbuster as, unlike Renfrew St, you won't have to fight your way to the front of the queue to snap up a ticket before it sells out. I came to see New Moon here (shut up) when you couldn't buy a ticket in town, and when Where The Wild Things Are was sold out everywhere else, it was so quiet in the theatre that you could hear a runaway Malteaser bouncing down to the front row. It's an extra ten minutes on the bus, but you'd be queuing in town for that length of time some nights, so it's worth the extra travel expenses (purely for the serenity).

Much quieter than the City Centre and better old- style seats.

The down side is that it can take forever to get served as they sell tickets and serve food and drink from the same counter.

Their next biggest problem is that they have much smaller screens (physical screen size) than newer cinemas.

My only other irritation is that some of management team here need to get a measure of reality when letting people in once the adverts have started.

I recently popped along to the Forge Cineworld to see I Am Legend the night it opened - the cineworld in town was completely sold out. It was a five minute drive away and a welcome trip out of Friday night city centre mayhem. When we got there hardly anyone had the same idea as us and I think we shared the hall with about 10 people. So there is tip no. one - come here when a big film is opening to avoid disappointment and crowds! Whilst this cinema is nowhere near as big as her sister, I like the fact that it is does not seem as modern and so retains an element of traditional cinema-going experience and aesthetics.


The facilities were satisfactory and the staff were really helpful. I wouldn't recommend the hot dog's though, mine was a bit on the dodge side. Make sure you have a way of getting home after a late night viewing as public transport is a walk away through some potentially dangerous territory.
