You know any store is worth visiting if you're willing to cross town for it. Double that if you're instantly impressed upon entering- visually at first, then with the ability to find both items you want, and need. The supermarket end is always well stocked, the qaulity of produce both fresh and aged impeccable, and you can get just about anything you're after. Which is a relief if you've ever been to a bodgy supermarket that is scant in offerings, and leaves you a slightly depressed.
In fact Boccaccio is the complete opposite; a happy place that's always chockers with an incredible range. The Cheese section is enormous for the shop of it's size, the deli is on par, fruits and veggies are all there, and all in great fresh qaulity; the layout of the shop and selection of items are well thought out and chosen well.
Boccaccio, both for the cellars and it's supermarket are absolute first rate when it comes to qaulity shopping with extensive and well sought range and breadth of fresh groceries of every kind. The supa Iga has you covered for: produce, green groceries, cheese, meat, and everything else, it's incredible; I don't think I've found another supermarket that can match it. It's worth noting here the most integral decision for choosing to visit- that it's not any of the big two supermarkets.
Onto the bottle shop ergo the actual cellars; a brilliant offering of high qaulity wines of all kinds, beers, spirits which are broken down wonderfully into their respective categories, and any other form of bloody decent tipple you may fancy. in short all the alco-wholes, done very well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Stefano D.Melbourne Victoria681219 Apr 2017
Local institution for food and wine. One stop shop from everyday supermarket items, to exotics and hard to get items from all over the world.

This supermarket and specialist cellar has taken a local and trusted, albeit run down, supermarket into a SUPER market. The renovations are absolutely superb, along with the selection of fresh food. The highlight is the extensive bottle shop, wine a selection of premium and local wines and imported beers. This is a must visit and will change the way you shop forever.

Bocaccio Cellars is an independent merchant and one of my favourite places to stock up the cellar with some Filthy Good Vino, Real Peroni (brewed in Italian, it just tastes sooo much better) and more. You can get great wine from $10 to $100's a bottle from all over the world. A huge selection of Italian wines is just the tip of the iceberg. Anthony and the boys also stock a great range of German Riesling, Champagne, Ports, iconic Aussie wines, European beers and more.
The real difference comes from the incredible passion the whole crew has for wine, food and just like me sharing that passion with others. They live and breath a food and wine life, travelling to Italy every year in a quest to source great produce for the rest of us. They love the stuff so much they even started their own winery, Hoddles Creek Estate!
They're just about to renovate and extend the cellars and adjoining Super IGA Supermarket. I hear they'll be introducing an Italian style butcher! By the sound of it Lygon Street may have a new contender for the tittle of little Italy. Stay Tuned!
They've helped me sort out the booze needs for a number of weddings and functions with great value wine. If you need a wine recommendation just ask Anthony, Dom or Stef, they'll find something that will tantalise your taste buds.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matt S.Balwyn North Victoria5811 Oct 2012
Great for buying wine or beer at really good prices.
The supermarket could be great if they invested a tiny bit of cash on it. It's filthy dirty, the vegetables are always bruised, rotting or just plain sad looking. Isles always packed with boxes, to cramped and always the odd sweet smell of decay, like Nan's caravan.
The deli has a great range but I wouldn't trust it unless your desperate.
We only buy things that weren't packed on premises and even then we look closely at the expiry dates. Once when hung over i bought a half empty bottle of water without noticing. My fault but YUCK!
In summary, great for canned goods and booze, NEVER buy the vegetables and i wouldn't trust the meat.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
